Summary

The Death of Superman was a 1992 stunt that turned out to be DC's bestselling Superman comic ever。 The massive 11-issue crossover among four different series (SupermanSuperman: The Man of SteelAction Comics, and Justice League of America) introduces an unstoppable alien named Doomsday who creates a path of destruction on his way to the heart of Metropolis and whom Superman must stop at any cost。 It's of interest as a milestone of the Superman mythos (though of course the outcome didn't last), but casual fans might be underwhelmed by the unfamiliar villain and the unfamiliar Justice League (with Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, and other minor heroes rather than the traditional lineup), the drawn-out story (by Dan Jurgens, Jerry Ordway, Louise Simonson, and Roger Stern), and the ordinary art (by Jurgens, Jon Bogadanove, Tom Grummett, and Jackson Guice)。 --David Horiuchi

3。35 ⭐ 。。。more

The last few panels were really well done, but the rest felt like there wasn’t enough build up。

Un clásico por excelencia pero como evento único posee algunas limitaciones, ya que el villano no presenta una explicación, simplemente esta por que si。 Por otro lado el dibujo es fantástico y se logra disfrutar al igual que la paleta de colores。

Very fast。 Lots of fun。

This is not good。 It's basically 7 comics of fighting and then something happens on the very last page。 Which could be counted as spoilers but the title kiiiinda gives it away。I think the aftermath of this will be a thousand times more interesting This is not good。 It's basically 7 comics of fighting and then something happens on the very last page。 Which could be counted as spoilers but the title kiiiinda gives it away。I think the aftermath of this will be a thousand times more interesting 。。。more

This is one of the most important events in DC lore。As of now, I have not read the other volumes in The Death and Return of Superman series。 My local bookstore does not have them。Rating: 5/5 Stars

This was such a weird one that for most of it, I assumed I just hadn't understood it properly。 Who is Doomsday? Why is he here? Where did he come from? What happened to the flash and wonder woman? Was that moody teen storyline relevant? I get the feeling that there were a few key moments they wanted to include, (such as the final kiss with Lois, the teenager begging for help from superman, JLA needing to be taken to hospital) so they built the story around that and nothing else。 I don't feel lik This was such a weird one that for most of it, I assumed I just hadn't understood it properly。 Who is Doomsday? It was cool to read the prelude to this special superman event that I got into with the issue where Superman actually dies

I like the visual of Doomsday and Superman stories often kind of feel like they need someone who can go toe-to-toe with Superman (Mongul, Darkseid, Doomsday)。 No tricks。 No kryptonite。 Just punch for punch。 But this whole thing is a total mess。 We watch the JLA, who contain something like zero well-known characters (maybe 。 。。 Guy Gardner?), get largely demolished。Then Doomsday largely beats on Superman, is inspired to go to Metropolis because of a pro wrestling commercial (notwithstanding a tot I like the visual of Doomsday and Superman stories often kind of feel like they need someone who can go toe-to-toe with Superman (Mongul, Darkseid, Doomsday)。 No tricks。 No kryptonite。 Just punch for punch。 But this whole thing is a total mess。 We watch the JLA, who contain something like zero well-known characters (maybe 。 。。 Guy Gardner?), get largely demolished。Then Doomsday largely beats on Superman, is inspired to go to Metropolis because of a pro wrestling commercial (notwithstanding a total lack of interest in language or context up until that point), and Superman and Doomsday punch each other to death at the same time。 While everyone watches at close range notwithstanding the fact that the force of these punches should topple buildings。 Doomsday is entirely a plot device and not a character。 And here, they don't play up any of the (later-developed?) "cool" factors surrounding Doomsday。 Instead, he's first a generic looking guy in a hazmat suit。 Then he's a spiky monster。 And Superman kills him? Does Superman kill? If so, why not just 。 。 。hurl him into the sun? Seems safer for everyone involved。 No one says that Doomsday is significantly heavier than a truck。 The cape-as-flag with Lois mourning is a pivotal image, but I would not have recommended this story。 Compare the Doomsday set up with the Bane set up。 Bane was a character。 。。。more

The Death of Superman is an action packed with fighting in almost every panel。 It is as the title would suggest about Superman as he takes on his greatest challenge yet, the unstoppable monster Doomsday。It was nice seeing the man of steel struggle for once, and not defeat his enemy in just one page but over the span of several issues。 The mystery behind Doomsday was great too, not knowing quit what he is or where he came from。 However while the action is great, it does take a while to get there。 The Death of Superman is an action packed with fighting in almost every panel。 It is as the title would suggest about Superman as he takes on his greatest challenge yet, the unstoppable monster Doomsday。It was nice seeing the man of steel struggle for once, and not defeat his enemy in just one page but over the span of several issues。 The mystery behind Doomsday was great too, not knowing quit what he is or where he came from。 However while the action is great, it does take a while to get there。I love this series, the author did a great job! My dad gave it to me when I was little and I have read it dozens of times。 I recommend it to anyone who loves comic books or just superheros in general。 。。。more

Another nineties classic that actually made headlines in the news media。 Too many talents to name bring this epic battle to life but really the story is only just beginning in this volume。

I thought this was a very good story。 Lot's of action, but more importantly it touches on the emotional aspect of being Superman。The rest of the Justice League is pounded into the earth and taken out of the fight。 Superman must step up and fight an unstoppable alien killing machine dubbed by Lois Lane as Doomsday。Terrific story that at the time made the cover of newspapers all around the world。This one is a recommend to anyone interested in reading a good story。 I thought this was a very good story。 Lot's of action, but more importantly it touches on the emotional aspect of being Superman。The rest of the Justice League is pounded into the earth and taken out of the fight。 Superman must step up and fight an unstoppable alien killing machine dubbed by Lois Lane as Doomsday。Terrific story that at the time made the cover of newspapers all around the world。This one is a recommend to anyone interested in reading a good story。 。。。more

Obviamente me resultó menos espectacular y emotivo que en su momento, pero la verdad que a nivel narrativo y animalesco, se la sigue recontra bancando, y estas ediciones con historias extra al final siempre suman。

My feeling is, that in a world of convoluted plots there are times when it is necessary to return to basic principles。The Unstoppable Force meets the Immovable Object? Who will win? Maybe, neither。That arc was told well in this graphic novel, specially after the build up of setting Doomsday up to be such an unstoppable monster。 He seemed like a real (and ever-growing) threat and the double knockout at the end felt right for the first encounter。I'm reading this nearly 30 years after it was writte My feeling is, that in a world of convoluted plots there are times when it is necessary to return to basic principles。The Unstoppable Force meets the Immovable Object? Really a solid story。 DC did well with this one。 I never read the lead up to the final battle as a child, so it’s neat to see it it now。

Superman never really appealed to me as a child, all powerful and only a little rock to stop him。 As one has aged, Superman started to make more sense than the others。 In order to win the long game, one must never waiver on their morals, change is only made through our behavior。 The Death of Superman set the stage for the modern era of DC comics and is one of the greatest comic runs in history。 30 years later, I finally read it。

I read this endlessly as a kid and big Superman fan and before I knew what actual good storytelling in comics could be like。It's still stupid and the clusterfuck of the Reign of the Supermen was not engaging enough to sort through 1000 pages to read it。 I read this endlessly as a kid and big Superman fan and before I knew what actual good storytelling in comics could be like。It's still stupid and the clusterfuck of the Reign of the Supermen was not engaging enough to sort through 1000 pages to read it。 。。。more

Recounting the coming of Doomsday, Doomsday's totally destructive and visually formidable time on Earth and the death of, and burying of Superman as told across the four main Superman books。 As ever in stories like this, it's the eulogies and aftermath that carry the sway。 A mere 5 out of 12。 Recounting the coming of Doomsday, Doomsday's totally destructive and visually formidable time on Earth and the death of, and burying of Superman as told across the four main Superman books。 As ever in stories like this, it's the eulogies and aftermath that carry the sway。 A mere 5 out of 12。 。。。more

This comic book is one of the most important stories about super heroes, but the story is kinda shallow, plus you've got to read previous comics (not only from superman, but from the B category JLA) to "understand" certain things。The art is good, but the colors are terrible, except from certain panels and the covers。Doomsday is bad ass。 This comic book is one of the most important stories about super heroes, but the story is kinda shallow, plus you've got to read previous comics (not only from superman, but from the B category JLA) to "understand" certain things。The art is good, but the colors are terrible, except from certain panels and the covers。Doomsday is bad ass。 。。。more
